We will follow three steps to Reset Forgotten Passcode on iOS :

  1. Backup your data using iTunes.
  2. Put your iPhone in DFU Mode and Restore with iTunes.
  3. Restore your Device from the saved iTunes Backup.

Note : To Reset Forgotten Passcode, you will most likely upgrade your iPhone, iPad or iPod to the latest iOS Version. Also, if you have a jailbroken device, after the resetting process, you will lose it.

How To Reset Forgotten Passcode For iOS

As I mentioned before, we will follow 3 steps.

1. Backup All Data using iTunes

What to do if you Forgot iPhone PasscodeConnect your device with the computer with the USB cable. Open iTunes and click on your device icon on the sidebar. Before doing a backup using iTunes, you have to disable Backup Encryption in iTunes. Go to Summary Section in iTunes and disable Encryption Backup. After you disable this option, click on Back Up Now to backup your files. This may take a while if you have a lot of files on your device.

After you make sure that your data is backed up with iTunes, go to step 2.

2. Put your iPhone, iPad or iPod in DFU Mode and Restore

After you put your device in DFU Mode, iTunes will automatically ask you to restore your device. Click on Restore and then iTunes will begin updating the firmware of your iPhone, iPad or iPod. The updating process will erase all data, including your forgotten passcode.

After your device is restored with the latest iOS Version, go to step 3.

3. Restore from Backup

After your device is restored with the latest iOS Version, don’t setup your device. Disconnect your device and then connect it again. Now, click on the device name on iTunes and go to Summary Tab. On Summary Tab, click on Restore Backup Option. Select the most recent backup and wait until your iPhone, iPad or iPod is restored back.

After the restore from iTunes Backup is completed, you will have your data and device but this time without the forgotten passcode.
